How Korea and IDB Are Using AI to Transform Education in Latin America and the Caribbean

Dated: February 3, 2026

Across Latin America and the Caribbean, artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming part of classrooms, reshaping how teachers teach, students learn, and education systems prepare young people for the future. A collaboration between Korea Education and Research Information Service (KERIS) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is driving this transformation by combining Korea’s expertise in digital education with the IDB’s focus on equitable learning opportunities. Since formalizing their partnership in 2010, the two institutions have shared best practices and developed programs to support digital literacy, socio-emotional development, and 21st-century skills, benefiting tens of thousands of students in countries like Paraguay and Colombia.

KERIS has introduced AI-powered tools such as TocToc! Math Expedition, which uses game-based content to enhance elementary math learning, and the Korean for All platform, which integrates AI tutors to provide personalized language support while diagnosing and adapting to learners’ proficiency. The partnership also emphasizes teacher development, with AI competency frameworks and self-assessment tools piloted for thousands of educators to ensure sustained, effective integration of AI in teaching.

Through nearly US$15.4 million in technical cooperation projects funded since 2006, the KERIS–IDB collaboration has advanced digital transformation by empowering teachers and students, validating and scaling AI-driven innovations, and strengthening data governance and educational infrastructure. By blending technology with pedagogy and policy, this alliance is not only transforming classrooms but also shaping the future of education across Latin America and the Caribbean, demonstrating the power of global cooperation in driving meaningful, equitable learning outcomes.
