Google Empowers Europe’s Workforce with New AI Initiative

Dated: March 18, 2026

At the Future of Work Forum, Google unveiled its ‘AI Works for Europe’ programme, designed to strengthen digital skills and help the workforce adapt to AI across the region. Google.org is directing $30 million to expand training opportunities and increase access to AI certification programmes, enabling individuals and businesses to adopt new technologies in practical, real-world contexts.

The initiative focuses on preparing workers and students for shifts in the labour market caused by AI adoption. Partnerships with organisations such as INCO are supporting the creation of targeted training programmes, especially in sectors with growing demand for AI skills, including finance, logistics, and marketing.

New educational pathways are being introduced, including an expanded AI Professional Certificate offered in multiple European languages. These programmes aim to enhance AI literacy and provide practical, hands-on experience that aligns with employer expectations.

Collaboration with local organisations and institutions is central to the initiative, ensuring that training opportunities are accessible across diverse regions and communities. These efforts reflect the increasing importance of skills development as AI becomes a core part of economic activity across Europe.
