Kazakhstan has launched UNESCO’s AI Readiness Assessment Methodology as part of efforts to strengthen ethical and inclusive artificial intelligence governance. The initiative aims to evaluate the country’s preparedness for AI development while aligning policies with international ethical and human rights standards.
The program follows UNESCO’s broader framework designed to help countries implement responsible AI systems in line with the UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence. Representatives from government institutions, academia, businesses, civil society groups, and expert organizations participated in discussions during the launch.
The assessment process will examine key areas related to AI governance, including transparency, inclusion, gender equality, and the protection of human rights. The initiative is also expected to support Kazakhstan’s broader digital transformation strategy and its plans for AI ecosystem development.
A national stakeholder group made up of ministries, universities, business associations, and civil society organizations will contribute to implementation efforts and provide policy recommendations. The launch event took place at Astana Hub in Kazakhstan.
The initiative reflects a growing international focus on creating responsible AI frameworks that balance technological innovation with ethical standards and social impact.
