World Radio Day 2026 in Pakistan: AI Enhances Educational Broadcasting

Dated: February 24, 2026

For World Radio Day 2026, UNESCO Pakistan celebrated the 15th annual event under the theme “Radio and AI: A Tool, Not a Voice,” highlighting how Artificial Intelligence can modernize radio broadcasting while preserving its human connection and trust. Radio continues to play a critical role in Pakistan, providing educational and informational access to remote regions with limited digital infrastructure.

UNESCO Islamabad collaborated with Radio Pakistan for a podcast discussion exploring radio’s evolution from a simple receiver to a sophisticated educational platform, emphasizing that AI enhances content production without replacing the local relevance, empathy, and trust inherent to radio.

In Lok Virsa, students from Pak-Turk Maarif International Schools experienced a virtual heritage tour where radio audio was transformed into a multi-sensory experience using AI-generated images and videos, demonstrating how technology can make educational content more interactive and engaging.

Across communities in Gupis-Yasin, Mohmand, and Swat, the Radio Education Project incorporated poetry, art, and listening sessions, showcasing radio as a steady companion for learning in isolated areas.

By reaching over 75,000 children and youth, training more than 250 educators, and strengthening local education officers, the project empowers remote communities with inclusive and culturally grounded learning.

This year’s celebration underscores how the integration of AI with traditional broadcasting creates a sustainable model that ensures geographical isolation does not hinder access to quality education.
