The UAE has launched a $1 billion initiative to support and finance artificial intelligence projects across African countries. Announced at the G20 summit by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the AI for Development program aims to expand the adoption of advanced technologies in key sectors such as education, agriculture and infrastructure. The initiative aligns with the UAE’s broader strategy to strengthen its position as a global hub for AI and innovation-driven growth.
In his remarks, Al Nahyan emphasized the UAE’s commitment to driving sustainable development through international partnerships and innovative financing that benefits emerging economies. The program will be implemented by the Abu Dhabi Exports Office under the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, in collaboration with the UAE Foreign Aid Agency. It will provide financial and technical support to help African nations integrate AI into public services and economic systems.
Officials highlighted that the initiative is rooted in the belief that artificial intelligence can play a transformative role in promoting equitable growth and long-term resilience. Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi noted that combining technology, financing and strategic partnerships will enable developing countries to tackle key developmental challenges more effectively. He added that the effort will also allow UAE enterprises to lead impactful projects that deepen economic and technological collaboration with African nations.
Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri stated that the AI for Development program reflects the UAE’s strong commitment to global cooperation and development. He emphasized that many African countries stand to benefit significantly from such initiatives as they seek solutions to pressing needs in sectors including education, healthcare and infrastructure.
