India Championing Ethical and Inclusive AI Innovation on the Global Stage

Dated: February 16, 2026

India is intensifying its efforts to establish itself as a global leader in artificial intelligence by prioritising responsible, inclusive and scalable innovation. At the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, the Ministry of Electronics and IT unveiled two major initiatives that reflect the country’s focus on ethical AI, citizen engagement and international collaboration. Together, these initiatives demonstrate India’s ambition to balance rapid technological advancement with accountability and social impact.

One key initiative is a nationwide digital campaign encouraging citizens to pledge their commitment to ethical, responsible and inclusive AI practices. The campaign invites participants to respond to interactive, scenario-based questions that highlight how AI responsibility applies in everyday and professional contexts. By submitting a formal AI Responsibility Pledge, individuals affirm their dedication to ensuring AI systems benefit society, respect rights and promote fairness. Participants receive a digital honorary badge and access to government-led AI learning resources, reinforcing public awareness and education. The campaign also aims to set a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD™ for the highest number of pledges within 24 hours, signalling India’s intent to build a mass movement around human-centric AI and civic responsibility.

Alongside public engagement, the summit is showcasing leading AI innovations from across the globe, underscoring the importance of international cooperation. More than 4,650 applications from over 60 countries were submitted to three flagship AI Impact Challenges, with 70 finalists selected to present their solutions. These challenges highlight real-world AI applications across sectors while promoting inclusive participation. AI for ALL focuses on areas such as healthcare, agriculture, climate resilience, governance, education and financial inclusion. AI by HER spotlights women-led innovations in fields including sustainability and digital commerce, reinforcing gender inclusivity. The YUVAi Global Youth Challenge encourages young innovators aged 13 to 21 to develop solutions addressing public health, accessibility, mobility, climate and digital trust.

Finalists will engage with policymakers, industry leaders, investors and academic institutions, demonstrating how AI can be responsibly deployed at scale to address complex challenges. By combining grassroots awareness with global innovation platforms, India is advancing a dual strategy that integrates ethical responsibility with technological progress.

The summit, described as the first global AI gathering in the Global South, has attracted significant international interest. Over 200 sector-specific AI models are set to launch, backed by an estimated US$70 billion in infrastructure investment and expanded AI talent development initiatives across 500 universities. These developments reflect India’s broader commitment to deployment-driven AI, inclusive participation and responsible governance, positioning the country as a central hub for ethical and impactful AI leadership worldwide.
